As a conference exhibitor and participant, identiMetrics was invited by CASBO’s Sacramento R&D Child Nutrition Committee to find a solution that would allow K-12 students the opportunity to purchase a full lunch outside of cafeteria hours using a vending machine. identiMetrics accepted the challenge and assembled a team of experts to develop a solution that would eliminate USB finger scanners and the need for an attached computer to the vending machine.
identiMetrics’ CEO, Jay Fry, along with Mary Hillen from Complete Business Systems and Doug Boals from Data Futures, wowed an impressive audience of food service directors and administrators. The unique integration, using an Ethernet biometric finger scanner, eliminated the need for a computer attached to the vending machine, thus providing more versatility and lowering costs. The culmination of six month’s collaboration with partners, Data Futures, Inc., E-Secure Peripherals, Star Food Vending Machines and Complete Business Systems resulted in vending machines that use a biometric finger scanner to replace cards and PINS and the need for two-factor identification. Schools can now use this cost-effective, flexible and efficient solution to provide meals for students outside the cafeteria or when the cafeteria is closed, and still qualify for state and federal reimbursement.
